Free St. Paul Winter Carnival activities, including a bunch aimed specially at kids, ramp up this weekend along with a couple grand opening celebrations, an art sled rally, and your last chance to visit the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum free on the weekend. St. Paul Winter Carnival Kids Day
@ Landmark Center, 75 W. 5th St., St. Paul

Time: 2-6pm
Details: Need a break from the cold? Warm up inside the beautiful Landmark Center Cortile with kid-centric activities like inflatables, crafts and live performances, including a “Frozen” appearance from Queen Elsa.

George Latimer Central Library Grand Reopening
@ George Latimer Central Library, 90 W 4th St., St. Paul

Time: Activities from 11:15am-4:30pm
Details: Catch a performance of the Loki Puppet Players during a special Saturday Live! performance at 11:15, take a tour of the renovated downtown library, watch a slide show of Winter Carnivals past and warm up with cider and hot chocolate before the King Boreas Grande Day Parade (2-4pm beginning at the Smith Ave. bridge and culminating at Rice Park).

Palace Community Center Grand Opening
@ Palace Community Center, 781 Palace Ave., St. Paul

Time: 9am-noon
Details: Take on Mayor Coleman in a hockey scrimmage, partake in refreshments, crafts, a bounce house, face painting and more to celebrate the opening of the new neighborhood community center.

Art Sled Rally @ Powderhorn Park
3400 15th Ave S, Minneapolis

When: Saturday, January 30 • 2-4pm
Details: Come watch outrageously creative “art sleds” take to the sledding hill in Powderhorn Park at the 9th Annual Art Sled Rally.

PlantMaker Studio & free admission
@ Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Dr., Chaska

Time: Noon-4pm
Details: This is the final weekend to take advantage of FREE January admission to the Arboretum. PlantMaker Studio offers drop in activities for families from noon-4pm featuring Great Grains – grind, plant, bake and explore grains cultivated worldwide.


St. Paul Winter Carnival Vulcan Fun Day @ Snow Park at the Fair
@ Minnesota State Fairgrounds, 1265 Snelling Ave., Falcon Heights

Time: 11am-3pm
Details: Hail the Vulcs on Vulcan Fun Day with free fire truck rides, a mini-medallion hunt for kids and make sure to vote for your favorite entry in the Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Contest! A turn down the thrilling Vulcan Snow Slide costs $2 per ride or $5 for three rides, sleds provided.
