Yes, it’s about that time to start planning summer camp opportunities for your kids! As many camps open registration as early as February (and many fill almost as quickly), we strive to publish our 2024 GUIDE TO TWIN CITIES SUMMER CAMPS accordingly. One or two-week camps rehearse a shortened version of a play or musical and present shows for invited guests complete with costumes, props, and set pieces. Campers learn theater vocabulary, teamwork, self-reliance, and build confidence by achieving a challenging goal. Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Mean Girls, The Addams Family, Beauty and the Beast. Ages 7-12; June 17-August 2, 2024. $250-$450/camp.

Offers a family-friendly swimming beach along with a volleyball court, a picnic area, an accessible playground, and a 5 1/2 mile bike trail (hilly in many spots). This park hosts a family campout July 7-8, 2023, $20/pp.

Winter in Woodbury: sledding hills, snow tubing, and ice skating rinks 

Outdoor ice skating rinks in Woodbury 

The city of Woodbury maintains free public outdoor ice skating rinks at five parks including COLBY LAKE PARK, KARGEL PARK, OJIBWAY PARK, SHAWNEE PARK and a refrigerated outdoor ice rink at HEALTHEAST SPORTS CENTER. The refrigerated rink is for pleasure skating only, no hockey sticks or pucks allowed. Weather permitting, it opens early December. Learn more about Woodbury’s outdoor ice skating rinks here. Looking for an indoor skating option? The  HEALTHEAST SPORTS CENTER also offers year-round ice skating (fees apply).

The best sledding hills in Woodbury

EAGLE VALLEY GOLF COURSE: The golf course’s 225 acres are used for sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

Cool places to take kids in the Woodbury area

Woodbury Central Park & Lookout Ridge Indoor Playground – Closed March 2024-Fall 2025.

WOODBURY CENTRAL PARK is a landscaped, climate-controlled indoor public park that houses  LOOKOUT RIDGE INDOOR PLAYGROUND, the local library (R.N. Stafford branch of the Washington County Library), a branch of the YMCA and an ECFE center. There is also a city-owned café located next to the library. The park hosts free community programs, music, and movies throughout the year. Lookout Ridge is one of the featured indoor playgrounds in our Twin Cities Indoor Playgrounds and Play Areas Guide. The play equipment and climbing structure is themed to look like the St Croix River Valley with lookalike limestone caves and giant tree trunks. You can climb to the treetops and then make your way to the bottom on a number of zippy slides. Preschoolers and toddlers have their own spaces to bounce, climb, slide and explore a maze of tunnels and caves if they are not yet ready to scale the treehouse. $5.50/child.

Amenities include a 90,000-square-foot indoor field house, two indoor ice arenas, an outdoor ice skating rink, outdoor athletic fields, a colorful splash pad, and MADISON’S PLACE PLAYGROUND, the Twin Cities East Metro’s first completely handicapped accessible inclusive playground.

CARVER LAKE PARK is one of Woodbury’s finest, with family-friendly amenities that include a swimming beach and volleyball court, a picnic area, two playgrounds, and a bike trail. The trail is popular challenge for off-road bikers. There is also a bike park for kids to work on biking skills. The beach is large, sandy and clean. This is the kind of park you can make a day of it at!

MERRILL ARTS CENTER in Woodbury is an all-volunteer theater that offers family-friendly shows and acting, piano, voice, and dance classes as well as summer camps for kids. Merrill produces several family-friendly shows a year, which we list on our performing arts calendar. Among the family-friendly offerings there is usually a Christmas show each year.
