Free Family Events List: Weekend of October 4-5

We all knew the fantastic warm weather couldn’t last. No coincidence that most of this weekend’s free events list takes place (sigh) indoors. Be sure to check out our accompanying weekend Family Fun List (not free, but most activities are reasonably priced) for more outdoor options. Fall is officially here!


Free Family Flicks Labyrinth
Where: Theatres at Mall of America
When: 10am
Cost: FREE!
Ages: You know your kids best – some of the scenes might scare younger ones.
Details: Who among us can’t count this as one of their favorite movies of the ’80s? Show up a little early to get a good seat and bring some extra money for that bucket of popcorn.

Walker First Free Saturday: Trial and Error
Where: Walker Art Center
When: 10am – 3pm
Cost: FREE!
Ages: Activities this weekend are specially designed for kids ages 6 – 12, but all ages are welcome to attend.
Details: Tinker with everyday objects in the Art Lab, design electric circuits using play-doh, watch short films and explore the galleries with kid-friendly guides.

Saturday Live!: Loki Puppet Players present The Three Little Pigs
Where: George Latimer Central Library, 90 W 4th St., St. Paul
When: 11:15am
Cost: FREE!
Ages: Appropriate for all ages.
Details: A new twist on the classic tale. Part of the ongoing Saturday Live! series at George Latimer Central Library. Click here for a list of upcoming Saturday Live! events.


Free Family Fun Day: Life of a Log
Carl Kroening Interpretive Center at North Mississippi Regional Park, 4900 Mississippi Court
Minneapolis, MN 55430
When: 1 – 3pm
Cost: FREE!
Ages: Appropriate for all ages, probably best suited for preschool-aged kids and up
Details: Drop in and enjoy the activities at your own pace.
