Rhythm & Words
Date: Saturday, June 8
Time: 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
Location: Burnsville Performing Arts Center, 12600 Nicollet Avenue, Burnsville, MN 55337

We’ve never attended the Rhythm and Words festival at Burnsville Performing Arts Center, and I really want to go this year.   There will be some great local bands, a little theater, several authors, some art and active play.

Main Stage
9:15–10 a.m.: The Bazillions.

The Bazillions are the perfect band for this festival.  They are a couple of local teachers — Adam and Kristin Marshall — who started writing music for their students and ended up forming this band.  There music is both fun and educational.  You can check some of it out here.

10:30–11:15 a.m.: The Okee Dokee Brothers.

What would a local children’s music festival be without the Grammy Award winning Okee Dokee Brothers?

11:45 am–12:30 p.m.: Paul Spring
1–1:45 p.m.: Gustafer Yellowgold

Black Box Theatre
9:45–10:30 a.m.: The Saturday Morning Submarine Adventure Show
11:15 a.m.–noon: Author/illustrator Cori Doerrfeld
12:15–1 p.m.: Author Debbie Bernstein Lacroix

Meeting Room
10–10:45 a.m.: Author Stephanie Watson
11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.: Alphabeasties creators – Werner Design Werks
1–2 p.m.: Author Michael Hall

Rehearsal Room
10–11 a.m.: The Adventures of Super Stretch
11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.: Kindermusik of the Valley
1–1:45 p.m.: TBA

VIP Suite (arts & crafts)
10 a.m.–1 p.m.: Horns, Shakers, and Tambourines — drop-in crafts with ArtStart

Special appearances by Curious George. Food trucks in the plaza. Book and merchandise sales by Addendum Books. Special thanks to Mackin Educational Resources.

Besides Family Fun Twin Cities, I spend my 9 to 5 at a day job pursuing my weird passion for calendars and organizing things as a legal secretary. When I get home I spend my time with my four kids, 10, 6, 4 and 1. My amazing husband is both a full-time musician and full-time stay-at-home dad. Together we run a small radio empire — SiaNet Radio — playing, promoting and enjoying the wide variety of local music and art in the Twin Cities. I juggle all this while writing about exploring the Twin Cities with kids. I couldn’t be happier.
