2026 Library summer reading programs

The chance to relax with a book instead of homework is a highlight of summer for my kids.  counties can pop into their local branches to sign up for their summer reading program to earn perks for keeping busy with books.

“Plant a Seed, Read!” Summer Reading at Carver County Libraries

Who Kids to age 11 and teens to age 18.
When June 1 through August 8, 2026.
Where Chanhassen, Chaska, Norwood Young America, Victoria, Waconia & Watertown libraries.
What Pick up a paper form from a librarian or use the online tracker Beanstalk to log your summer reading. In person activities at the libraries will include live performances, storytimes and storywalks, STEM activities and art programs. Kids who complete at least 5 activities can win a book or other prizes.

“Summer Spotlight” at Scott County Libraries

Who Youth up to age 18 
When May 30-August 29, 2026
Where Belle Plaine, Elko New Market, Jordan, New Prague, Prior Lake, Savage and Shakopee libraries.
What Stop by your local branch to pick up a free summer reading starter kit. Kits will include a reading log, booklists and activities. In person library programs will be offered throughout the summer and kids can check out Take Home Play Kits or tabletop games. For kids who need extra practice Reading Boost packets will help support literacy development and comprehension.

EDINA Centennial Lakes Summer Kids Concerts

Today’s kids concert features crowd-pleaser Acoustic Rock for kids featuring John Kerns. BONUS FUN: There is so much to explore at
Centennial Lakes Park from swan paddle boats to lawn games to tiny model yachts that zip around the canals. Kids concerts are performed ongoing Tuesdays and Thursdays in the park this summer. June 2, 2026, 10am. FREE.

The sweet little splash pad consists of interactive ground spray fountains to splash in, lit at night. The park is also home to the Clayhole Swim Beach, a boardwalk to stroll across and along the water, a playground, and a concession stand.

The outdoor pool has a pirate theme and amenities that include the unique Lost Wave Simulator, the Pirate’s Plunge body and tube slides. For younger children, there is a zero-depth water playground named Lil’ Lagoon. Open 11:30am-8pm, $11-$14/person.

CHASKA Tulips & Storytime at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The Arb is an incredible outdoor getaway that’s full of whimsy and delight for little ones, visit after visit. A visit in late spring means the grounds are bursting with color from tulips, daffodils and crabapple trees. Kids enjoy features such as the hedge mazes, fish ponds, the Bee Discovery Center and a nature play area. StoryTime in the Andersen Horticultural Library is 10:30am. June 4, 2026.
