Why are summer day camps so expensive?
Hi Tommy. We offer a range of summer camps in our list. Some are completely FREE. Most are reasonable when compared to the price of daycare. One reader shared that they used a succession of camps in place of summer daycare. I do understand where you are coming from, as a single-paycheck family, we find summer camps out of reach and unnecessary when we have a parent at home. I encourage you to peruse our list, you may find a free or inexpensive camp that fits your kids needs. Also, check out our list of Vacation Bible Schools.
I just started to plan my kid’s summer camp adventure. This is a great resource!
We have to agree, Oliver! We’ve worked hard to gather these resources an we think their are some great opportunities here.
Looking camp for an active 7-year-old girl. She would love if it included a variety of physical activities — swim, dance, gymnastics – but also some learning and art time. Thank you!!
Hi Gaia.
Definitely start with our Twin Cities Summer Camps: Active & Sports Camps. Another option is to look at what your local park/school district has to offer. These often offer a larger variety of activities than camps geared toward a specific topic.
This is great info. It would be super helpful to have them sorted by location.
Hi Brooke:
Our individual Summer Camp Guides are set up by location, with sections for Minneapolis/St. Paul, North Metro, South Metro, East Metro and West Metro. We also have sections for camps with multiple Twin Cities locations and sleep-away camps that are further out of the metro area. I hope you find the perfect camp near your home!

Are you aware of any summer camps for todders? My daughter will be 2 this summer and we are looking for some outdoor programs for kids her age.
Hi Kayla. You’ll find that most summer camps are for school age and sometimes pre-school children. Generally two options for toddlers are parent/child programs or a program through a daycare/preschool. If you are looking for something you can do together, check out or one of these 10 favorites of Anne. For a drop-off program, you might want to look into a nature immersion preschool.
One more option is a Preschool Drop Off program through Three Rivers Parks. Search keyword “Preschool Drop Off” here.
Is there a way to sort between overnight camps and just day camps? For some of us who don’t reside in the Twin Cities any longer, overnights just make more sense in the search. Love what you all do!!!
That is a good idea, Brady. We’ll see if we can add a link for just overnight camp. Currently, we do not have a lot of overnight options and the choices we do have tend to be outside the Twin Cities – Camp Pillsbury, Girl Scouts River Valleys and Tamahay Camp for Girls all offer overnight options. You can find links to all three of these camps in our 2021 Summer Camp Guide Sponsors list at the bottom of this main page.
Hi. Lindsey.
I’m sorry that our forms aren’t working properly. Gianna is in the process of fixing the problem. I will email you.
We’d like information as well on how to add our camps.
Thanks!
~Betsy Anderson
I’ll email you, Betsy.
