By this weekend, most of the classic frosty Minnesota festivals have passed (or, more accurately, cancelled.) Here are a few festival ideas sprinkled across the greater Twin Cities metro area to tide you over until spring; consult our calendar for a complete lineup:

Wintertime in Stillwater Lights Display

Chestnut Street in historic downtown Stillwater has transformed into a winter wonderland. Last year, our family visited the free LED light show set to music one magical Friday night and had the whole street to ourselves! Come see for yourself while exploring the downtown shops and spots to grab dinner. Lighting up now thru February 2024, 5-10pm nightly.

  • BROOKLYN PARK: Winterfest – Minus the ice skating, there will be a touch-a-truck event, bonfire and treats. February 10, 2-4pm.
  • BURNSVILLE: Polar Fest – Activities still on the schedule include free carriage rides, a DJ, bonfire and food trucks. February 10, 11am-2pm.
  • MENDOTA HEIGHTS: Frozen Fun Fest –  Family-friendly Cupid Crawl with a magic show and live music at Market Square. February 10, 5-8pm.
  • MINNEAPOLIS: Lunar New Year at Midtown Global Market – Crafts for kids, story time, dance performances and great food. February 10, 12-3pm.
  • RAMSEY: Frost Fest – Keep watch to see if the chili cook-off goes ahead as scheduled. February 10, 12-6pm.

Little Star Storytime at Forgotten Star

38 Northern Stacks Drive, Fridley, MN 55421
A children’s story followed by songs, crafts and the chance for littles to get bodies moving. Note this is held an hour before Forgotten Star opens, but beverages are served. Hosted by North Suburban Center for the Arts, a fine arts facility in Fridley. February 11, 2024, 11am-12pm. FREE.
