Several parks in the Twin Cities area are celebrating autumn with apple-themed kid and family activities. Here is a round up of upcoming events.
Join the Gale Woods farmers for farming fun. Learn how the farmers care for the animals and gardens throughout the year. Each month we will care for the animals and cook with farm produce in the education center. This is an adult/child class; maximum of three children per adult. Free play activities are available after the program. Reservations are required for adult and child by the Monday prior to the event; call 763.559.6700. Restricted to participants age 1 to 6.

Discover the story of apples in Minnesota. Hear how the first pioneers established winter-hardy apples and turned them into a major horticultural crop. Apples will be cooked, dried, canned, jellied and cidered during the day’s activities. Nineteenth-century apple recipes will be provided for your enjoyment. Observe and visit with artisans demonstrating their skills, and see how lives in early Minnesota were sustained by the tools of the trade. Play games and enjoy a ride on a trolley pulled by Percheron draft horses. The gift shop will be open and food will be available for purchase.
Fees are required, the options are: $5 (adults); $3 (children & seniors). Children under 2 are free.

Drop off your kids and investigate fall changes in Hyland Lake Park Reserve. We will end the day by making a craft and having a snack brought from home. Reservations are required. Make applesauce like your grandmother used to make then take home some seed recipes to wrap up the growing season in your garden.
We’ll use local, organically-grown food from the garden down the road so you can hone your chopping skills, expand you pallet, and use your imagination to transform garden fresh produce into healthful home-made snacks and meals this growing season.
Participants between the ages of 6 and 17 must be accompanied by at least one adult. Maximum of 2 kids per adult. $30 for 1 adult/1child +10 for a second child. Free parking at the Wirth Beach parking lot then cross the street and head to pavilion up the hill.
