40th Street Park is the temporary name for the park f/k/a Sibley Park while the community decides on a new name. This park has scenic walking paths, roses and wildflowers, tennis courts, a wading pool, playground and tot lot for family enjoyment. Other amenities include restroom facilities and a drinking fountain.
Ideas for family fun at 40th Street Park
- Take a walk around the park and enjoy its garden
- Bring a book or two to swap out your reads at the Little Free Library
- Run around the playground and/or tot lot together
- Bring a playground ball to play dodge ball on the soccer field
- Use the playground ball for a game of kickball on the softball field
- Play a game of HORSE on the Basketball Court (you can use your playground ball for that, too.)
- Cool off in the Wading Pool (once the new pool opens in 2024)
40th Street Park wading pool
In April 2023, construction teams removed the park’s very old pool and replaced it with a new pool in 2024. This park does not share space with a school, so the pool on normal years, opens from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Summer Meals Program
40th Street Park historically participates in the summer meals program, offering free lunch to children under 18 years old from. Times, participating parks and details can be found on the Minneapolis Park & Rec Board (“MPRB”) website each June.
Winter recreation at 40th Street Park
Minneapolis Parks maintains a skating rink and a hockey rink during outdoor skating season (usually mid-December through mid-February. This is also a popular park for sledding. The slope is relatively gentle and points inward away from any streets.
40th Street Park Recreation Center
The recreation center’s amenities include a community kitchen, computer lab, craft room, meeting room and multipurpose room. Hours vary with the school year.
