Northeast Ice Arena is mainly a practice arena for area hockey teams. This ice arena serves the north part of Minneapolis while Palace Ice Garden serves the south side of town. Public skates at this rink are rare and this facility does not loan or rent skates. Amenities include an indoor hockey rink and ice rink for the fall/winter months and lacrosse field and soccer field in March through August. A new dryland training facility was added in 2022.
NOTE Frequent visitors recommend dressing warm. This facility is kept colder than the average rink. On the day we visited, it was colder than the outdoor temperatures.
Northeast Ice Arena Training Facility
In 2022, Minneapolis Parks and the Minnesota Wild added a state-of-the-art training facility to Northeast Ice Arena. This new space includes rubber and turf flooring, similar to the Minnesota Wild’s training spaces; a speed, agility, and plyometric area; a strength and conditioning area with various weights and equipment for bodyweight training; as well as an area for cardiovascular conditioning with Airdyne Bikes and slide boards.
The Mentoring Room
The new mentoring room, also added in 2022, will be staffed by local law enforcement from Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis, who will serve as mentors to youth participants.
