5 Family-Friendly Offerings At Hennepin County Libraries
Access BookFlix Through Hennepin County Library. BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction. It helps kids improve reading skills and develop real-world knowledge and understanding. Best for ages 4-8. Learn more about accessing this resource with your library card here.
Help Your Kids Choose The Next Book with NoveList K-8. NoveList K-8 is an online resource that helps kids find a book based on their interests. It has suggestions for both fiction and nonfiction and can be sorted by topic, genre, grade level, and Lexile score. You can also enter a title of a book they enjoyed and get “read-alike” suggestions. This tool can be accessed with your library card.
Visit the World with CultureGrams and your Hennepin County Library Card. If you want to learn more about a country, U.S. state or Canadian Province, CultureGrams is a great first stop. This tool offers infographics of the average citizen, flags, cool facts, pronunciations and maps. You’ll also find slideshows and pictures, recipes to try, and extensive resources for teachers and parents. There is so much more in this tool that it is basically a grade school geography report all wrapped up for you (but you don’t have to tell your kid that). You’ll need a library card to access this tool.
Get a Free State Park Vehicle Pass with Minnesota State Park Library Program. Check out a 7-day park vehicle pass to Minnesota State Parks from select Hennepin County Library branches. This program runs through June 2025.
Free Tickets! Find Free or reduced priced tickets to Twin Cities arts activities and museums through the SmARTpass Program. I’ve found tickets for the family to traveling museum exhibits that would have otherwise been out of our price range, music performances and plays. If your family is on the larger size, you may have to take a smaller group or have more than one family member use their library card to access tickets.
