Northeast Athletic Field Park is the home of Jim Lupient Water Park. It also has sports fields, picnic areas and grills, a playground and tot lot and walking paths. The park’s new “adventure course” playground adjacent to the rec center in the southwest corner of the park was open to the play in the fall of 2022. The recreation center, which officially opened in March 2018, includes a full-court gym, community learning kitchen and classroom, multipurpose room, and a lobby with a ping pong and foosball table. The roof of the building has a solar power installation and the building was constructed with sustainable building practices. This park is one of a handful in Minneapolis with a semi-permanent bike track. Similar to but smaller than the Nokomis skills park, the course gives bikers a chance to practice skills on wood tracks and bumps. Rooms in the recreation center, including the kitchen and gym, are usually available to rent for private use, such as birthday parties. The water park also offers birthday party packages. The miniature golf course located within Northeast Park closed in 2019. For more mini golf options, see FFTC’s Guide to Mini Golf Courses in the Twin Cities.Related Articles
