TWIN CITIES JUNE FAMILY FESTIVAL IDEAS

Get your fill of June family festival outings with this handy list of local celebrations around the Twin Cites. Most are free. If there is admission, it is listed. Family-friendly highlights are listed for each:

6/2-4: Edina Art Fair | 50th & France | Family highlights: Live music and a Kids Zone filled with art activities, inflatables and a shady place to rest.

6/3: Art in the Hollow| Swede Hollow, St Paul | 10am-5pm | Family highlights: Over 50 visual & performing artists, many creating works on site.

6/3: Waterfest | Phalen Regional Park, St Paul | 11am-4pm | Family highlights: Celebrate clean lakes and outdoor rec with family canoeing, fishing lessons, crafts, games, interactive exhibits and more.

6/3: Saint Anthony Park Arts Festival | Como and Carter Avenues, St Paul |10am-5pm | Family highlights: Boy Scout Troop 17 and Cub Scout Pack 22 will have fun activities for kids from 10 am to 3 pm at the corner of Como Avenue and Luther Place. Go for a climb on a tower and if the weather is good, take a pinewood derby car for a spin!

6/3-4: Flint Hills International Children’s Festival | Downtown St Paul | Family highlights: The whole shebang, from outdoor artist performances to the exhibit and activities tent, is great for kids. Get tips for bringing the whole family at the link.

6/3-9: I Love Burnsville Week | Family highlights: Grand opening of Minnesota Riverfront Park and Black Dog Trail (6/3, 10am-noon), Friday Fest & Flicks on the Bricks (6/9), demonstrations, ice cream social and family activities.

6/4: Grand Old Day | Grand Ave, St Paul | Family highlights: Back to a single day again in 2017, there are still plenty of kids activities in the Family Fun District, live music and parade.

6/4: Rhubarb Fest | New Brighton History Center Museum | New Brighton | 1-4pm | Rhubarb will be available for purchase.

6/7-11: Albertville Friendly City Days | Albertville | Family highlights: Carnival runs Thu-Sun; Saturday Events for Kids including fire truck display, Kiddie Parade, Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, and Toddler Town. Miss Albertville Royalty candidates sponsor root beer floats at the Lions Shelter at 11:00 a.m.

6/8-11: Spring Lake Park Tower Days | Spring Lake Park | Family highlights: Festival at Lakeside Lions Park (6/11, 10am-dusk) features interactive lumberjack shows, a visit from the Ghostbusters of MN, and other kids activities; Stars Wars: The Force Awakens (6/10 Lions Park).

6/8-11 Hugo Good Neighbor Days | Hugo | Family highlights: Parade and fireworks (6/10).

6/9-11: Wannigan Days | Taylors Falls/St Croix Falls | Family highlights: Kids parade through Taylors Falls


6/10-11: Art on the Lake | Excelsior | Family highlights: Get creative in the Kids Art Tent. Listen to local music and try out regional food vendors.

6/10-11: Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes | Maple Grove | Family highlights: A Chalkfest Family Zone is set aside for families to create together, plus games, music and food.

6/10-11: Deutsche Tage | St Paul | Family highlights: A sampling of German food (not free), culture and games.

6/10-11: Northern Spark | Green Line (Mpls – St. Paul) | 8:59 pm to 5:26 am | Family highlights: This overnight festival of art is probably best to share with the older kids.

6/11:  Minnesota Festival of Jazz on the Prairie | Staring Lake Park, Eden Prairie | 2pm-8pm | Family highlights: Showcase for six of the best local Jazz Groups in the Twin Cities.

6/13-17: Farmington Dew Days | Farmington | Family highlights: Kids Fishing Contest (6/17, 9am-11am). Pare (6/17 5pm).

6/14-17: Faribault Heritage Celebration | Faribault | Family highlights: Carnival, live music, coloring contest and kids fun run.

6/14-18: Buffalo Days | Buffalo | Family highlights: Wed-Sun: Carnival, Thu: Kiddie Parade (6:30): Fri: Fireworks (dusk); Sat: Grand Parade (6pm).

6/15-17: Tater Daze Festival | Brooklyn Park | Family highlights: Parade, live music and fireworks.

6/15-18: St. Louis Park Parktacular | St Louis Park | Family highlights: Both the Grand Day Parade (noon-2pm)  and Kidtacular Family & Kids Activities (2-6pm) are 6/17. Activities are free or low cost.

6/15-18: Cottage Grove Strawberry Fest | Kingston Park, Cottage Grove | Family highlights: Free kids tractor pedal pull (6/15), free petting farm (6/17, 1-5pm), self-guided StoryWalk through the festival, and Water Wars water balloon station (small fee).

6/15-7/4: Manitou Days | White Bear Lake | Family highlights: “50 Years of Fun in the Sun”; Parade (6/16).

6/16-18: Stone Arch Bridge Festival | Minneapolis | Family highlights: A weekend of art and music on the Minneapolis River Front. Family Activities Area, live music and a car show.

6/17/17: Fridley Fest (formerly ’49er Days) | Commons Park, Fridley | Family highlights: This shortened version will still have a parade, kids fun run, food and music. Fireworks are still possible. Stay tuned.

6/17/17: Midsommar CelebrationAmerican Swedish Institute, Minneapolis | Family highlights: Showcases Swedish Music, Dancing, and Food • $10 adult, $7 ages 62+, $5 ages 6-18 and students with ID.

6/21-25: Columbia Heights Lions Jamboree | Huset Park, Columbia Heights | Family highlights: Jamboree and carnival.

6/22-24: Earle Brown Days Festival | Brooklyn Center | Family highlights: Parade (6/22); A full Saturday (6/24) of fun in Centennial Park with a Inflatables ($5 wristband), Art Activities, Games, plus teen activities and fireworks.

6/22-24: Twin Cities Jazz Festival | St Paul | Family highlights: Hosted at various venues, look for free family-friendly concerts at several parks, including Mears, Rice and Como Dockside. Download free Metro Transit passes.

6/22-25: Oakdale Summerfest | Walton Park, Oakdale | Family highlights: Parade, live music, fireworks, carnival rides, kids events and more.

6/22-26: Rosefest | Roseville | Family highlights: Superhero Carnival and Free Skate at Roseville Skate Center (6/23); Community Theatre: “Lion King”, Great American Campout and campfire (6/24); Touch a Truck and children’s concert (6/25); Parade (6/26).

6/24: Dakota Day | Gibbs Farm Museum | 10am-4pm | Family highlights: Celebrate Minnesota’s First People! Admission: $8 adults, $5 children 3-16

6/24: Minnetonka Summer Festival | Civic Center Campus | 4-10:45pm | Family highlights: Inflatables, petting zoo, family music, and fireworks. All activities are free except food!

6/24: Midsommar Dag | Gammelgarden Museum, Scandia | Family highlights: Traditional Swedish music and dances celebrate the long days of summer! Building Tours are FREE. Smorgasboard available $12/adults, $8/child.

6/24-25: Afton Strawberry Festival | Afton | Family highlights: Kids Spin Art, live music, raptor demos & strawberry shortcake eating contest.

6/24-25: Eagan Art Festival | Eagan Festival Grounds | Family highlights: Art activity tent features artist demonstration and hands-on activities.

6/25: Scandinavian Summer Fest | Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis | Family highlights: Potluck lunch, children’s parade at 11:45am, music and maypole dancing.

6/28-7/4: Apple Valley Freedom Days | Apple Valley | Family highlights: Carnival, Music in the Park, Family Fun Night on Monday, July 3rd.
