Frogtown Community Center (f/k/a Scheffer Recreation Center) outdoor fields, are relatively knew additions to the Saint Paul Parks System. The community center was built in 2018/2019 and fields were finalized in 2020. Family-friendly amenities include an artificial turf football/soccer field, a basketball court, a volleyball court, a Kato court, and a playground.

The Playground

The playground includes play equipment and sports fields and courts and was updated in 2018 along with the building. It includes a new play area, an artificial turf football and soccer field, a full-sized basketball court, and a Kato court.

The New Frogtown Community Center

Located near the Como Avenue and Marion Street intersection, the new recreation center officially opened in September of 2019 after breaking ground in July of 2018. The new sustainably-built building is more than three times larger than the former Scheffer Recreation Center and includes community rooms, a kitchen, after-school space, a fitness room, and a full-size gym. It features large windows to allow light in, include energy and water efficient utilities and measures to improve bird safety despite the large windows.

Free Summer Meals at Frogtown Community Center

This rec center participates in the Free Summer Meals program four youth. Children age 18 and under can receive free meals during scheduled times during the summer school break. Find times here. Scheffer also participates in Summer Blast, which is a free program for grade school kids offered on summer afternoons.
