WHAT TO EXPECT AT A BIKE RODEO
Look for bike rodeos beginning in May during Bicycle Safety month and continuing through the summer at municipal events and schools around the Twin Cities.
Intended for cyclists 4-18 years of age, the purpose of a bike rodeo is to help kids become better bicyclists. Kids should bring their own bicycles for the opportunity to have it assessed for safety and soundness. Most events offer fun bike skills activities, safety inspection stations and simple bike maintenance. Local bike shop owners or bike mechanics may be onsite with basic tools to offer tune ups. Skills taught often include how to hand signals, intersection and stop sign safety, how to avoid typical crashes, and basic bicycle handling skills. Giveaways sometimes include bike helmets and first aid kits.
