Leonardo’s Basement is a unique non-profit dedicated to helping people of all ages discover the power of building from their imaginations. The workshop provides the opportunities, tools and supplies to make, build, and fail in positive learning environments through classes, workshops and events. There are workshops for children, adults and families (although not enough family classes in my opinion). Fun activities in the past have included create-your-own lawn signs and the annual doll-o-ween contest – where contestants re-imagine fashion dolls.
The Adventure Playground
The Adventure Playground at the Malcolm Avenue location has a 24-foot diameter Death Star!
Following the lead of some famous European adventure playgrounds, Leonardo’s Basement has converted its outdoor yard into a similar play and build area. While this is not a family program as parents are not invited, we think its kind of cool. The Adventure Playground provides a broad assortment of building materials, tools and appropriate supervision for kids to build creatively and have their own hand-made fun. Leonardo’s Basement recommends children wear clothes that can get dirty and wet with sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
Register kids ages 6-17 for select times and dates. Pre-registration is required and these workshops sell out fast. We recommend getting on the mailing list.
Birthday parties at Leonardo’s Basement
Birthday party packages allow the guests to design and build creative engineering, technology or art projects to take home and are available for ages 5 through adult.
Leonardo’s Basement summer camps
Full and half-day workshops from June through August, mixing engineering, art, and technology. Build large LEGO installations, sew stuffed animals, and paint. Make wood projects and explore electricity. Design and create toys, fairy villages, ginormous board games. Build and play in the extraordinary outdoor Adventure Playground! Exceptional opportunities for teens, including welding, pewter casting, drones, tabletops games and miniatures, robots, woodworking, metalworking, sewing, 3D printing and laser engraving.
