Central Gym Park offers family friendly activities and amenities including a playground and tot lot and wading pool. You will also find space for picnics with a grill and access to restrooms and a drinking fountain. This park has a variety of sports fields and courts. Central Gym often hosts indoor family-friendly movies during the colder months.

Play some outdoor field games on the athletics field
Run around the playground. There are separate areas designed for toddlers and for kids ages 5-12.
Pack a Picnic. The community gathering area has a grill and plenty of space to picnic.
Play a game of one-on-one on the full-size basketball court (or come during an open gym time to play indoors)
Stroll, skate or bike along the paved paths and walkways
Skateboard in the Skate Park
Swap out your books at the Little Free Library. (Note. Some Minneapolis Park Little Free Libraries are better maintained than others. I’ve found that a little attention goes a long way to keeping them up.)
Bring your tennis rackets for a little practice time.

Central Gym Skate Park

Built in 2025, the skate park was designed with the input of the community and includes a staging area, loop and a closed bowl area as well as some obstacles and ramps. Loaner boards are available at the park.

Central Gym Park Wading Pool

Central Gym Park shares space with Richard R. Green School; therefore, its wading pool will opens after the close of school and closes before school begins in the fall.

A new pool is on the wish list for future improvement plans to this park.

Central Gym Recreation Center

This recreation center is not air-conditioned, but it does have a gymnasium and a craft room, as well as a community kitchen and meeting rooms. The lobby has a pool table for public use during open hours.

Birthday Parties at Central Gym Park

The park facility is available to rent for private events like birthday parties. Individuals and groups are encouraged to use Minneapolis centers and park spaces for self-directed activities. There are different permit requirements and special use fees, depending on the use.

Summer Meals for Kids at Central Gym Park

Central Gym has participated in the summer meals program, providing meals to kids 18 and under while school is out. Summer meals run from from mid-June to mid-August each summer. You can learn more about the program here.
