The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will be hosting Apple Tastings the last two weekends of September. Bring your family and help the scientists from the University of Minnesota discover the next Honeycrisp.
This is a good place to sneak in a little science lesson. Older kids might find the development of the Honeycrisp and other apple varieties fascinating. For younger kids, Our Big Earth has some suggestions for interesting science projects involving apples.
As long as you are visiting Chaska, stop by the AppleHouse. You can purchase some apples to take home. The AppleHouse boasts 80 different varieties of apples throughout the season. It also carries a variety of local produce and specialty gifts. You could even go home with your own apple trees. The AppleHouse is located one mile west of the Arboretum on State Highway 5 and Rolling Acres Road. Call ahead (952-443-1409) for apple varieties and featured selections of produce and plants available on the day of your visit.
