Sunrise Park is a 15 acre park off of Bloomington Ferry Road. Family-friendly amenities include a playground and space to picnic as well as sports fields and courts. In the winter, the city maintains ice rinks. There is off-street parking at this location. This park has outdoor ice skating rinks that are maintained between mid-December and mid-February when weather permits. It is open and staffed daily between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.on weekdays; between noon and 9 p.m. on Saturdays and school release days; and between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sundays. Three days in 2017/2018 have special hours of noon to 4 p.m.. These are Christmas Eve (12/24), New Years Eve (12/31) and Monday, February 5th. Floodlights are utilized after dark. Sunrise is a participating site for Bloomington’s Polar Passport Program. Youth under 15 can pick up a passport at the warming house and then collect stamps at other participating warming houses. Improvements to this park are on hold due to funding issues. However, Bloomington plans to replace tennis and pickleball courts and install new fencing in these areas, replace the basketball backboards and rims plus repaint the lines and install a new bituminous trail and a picnic table.
