Perkins Hill Park in North Minneapolis has family-friendly amenities that include a playground and tot lot, well-kept green spaces and picnic area with a grill and a basketball court. In 2019, The Minneapolis Parks & Rec Board (“MPRB”) began the  an improvement project that would add the city’s first bicycle pump track to this park. The long-awaited pump track was finished in the summer of 2022.

This small park does not have a recreation center of its own, but is located about half a mile from Farview Recreation Center.

Perkins Hills Skills & Pump Track

If you have been hoping for a BMX park in Minneapolis, you will soon have your wish granted. A pump track is sometimes also called an “all-wheel park,”  “BMX track” or “bike training course”. It features circuits of banked turns, mounds and other aspects that can be used by people by people with varying skills and abilities on bikes, skateboards and scooters. This is the first facilities of this kind in the Minneapolis park system.

MPRB’s Guidelines for Use of the Pump Track

MPRB asks that visitors to Perkins Hill Park be safe and considerate of others when using the track. They ask that bikers:

  • Wear a helmet.
  • Be courteous to others.
  • Learn about riding on a pump track prior to visiting. You can find videos on the subject or just go watch others doing it the first time.
  • Enter only at the concrete area with a “trailhead” sign.
  • Do not walk or ride on the slopes around the track. This area was has been seed with native plants and will keep the track in better shape by helping to  prevent erosion onto the track.
