Mattocks Park is a shady neighborhood park nestled between homes in St. Paul. Family-friendly amenities include a sandy playground with tot lot (resilient surfacing here) and a picnic area. We are told that community members keep Tonka-style trucks available for kids to play with in the sand. While we can’t guarantee they will be there every time you visit, we think this is a wonderful idea for toy sharing.

The picnic tables are nicely situated near enough to the play area to allow adults to supervise while preparing lunch. While there is a drinking fountain, there is no building with restrooms.

The park is shaded by mature trees, some of which make good climbers. There are also large boulders throughout the park which also beg to be climbed.

4 Ideas for Family Fun at Mattocks Park:

  1. Bring tennis or pickleball rackets and play a game
  2. Play a game of HORSE on the park’s half-court (bring your own basketball). The court offers three different hoop sizes so even the younger kids can play.
  3. Play outdoor games on the park’s large green space.
  4. Run around the playground together or let them play while you watch.
  5. Walk or skate around the paved trails
