Heritage Village Park in Inver Grove Heights sits on the Mississippi River just off Concord Boulevard. It is currently mainly a dog park. However, a Master Plan was approved in 2012 that will include acquisition of more land, added playground equipment, relocation of an historic town hall/schoolhouse building and the installation of a small performance area. The park is a block north of Swing Bridge Park and both parks offer some opportunities historical exploration of old railroad remnants and what remains of the Rock Island Swing Bridge (which is now a pier). Future plans for the park will incorporate this railroad history into the design of the picnic shelter with a roundhouse influence. In December of 2020, the Inver Grove Heights Park commission approved funding for structural improvements to the park, including to repairing sidewalks, installing a retaining wall and other improvements. This work will prepare the park for more exciting future work, which will include new playground equipment, a picnic shelter and restroom facilities. There is no timeline for these future improvements, however, the community has been fundraising for an inclusive playground a this site for several years. Learn more about these plans at All Can Play IGH. The off-leash dog park is open all year with separate areas for big and small dogs. An annual pass is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents, with discounts for second dogs. Purchase them online, in person or by calling 651-450-2585.
