Winter festivals this weekend in the Twin Cities Northeast Metro

Winter festivals have just about melted to a trickle by this weekend in the Twin Cities. Our unseasonably warm weather is partly to blame – but in general, around President’s Day, Twin Cities-area communities have tired of frosty festivities and are looking ahead to spring. Here’s one final celebration in the Northeast Metro to sign off winter; check our Twin Cities Winter Festival Family Calendar for more details.

STILLWATER Winterfest

The majority of events on the Winterfest lineup appeal to adults (beverage crawls, shopping deals and late-night live music) but Saturday features a few highlights a family could participate in: kids activities at the Loft at Studio J, a hot air balloon basket and a fireworks display. February 17, 2024.

MORE WINTER FESTIVITIES IN STILLWATER: Chestnut Street in downtown Stillwater is still decorated with its winter lights display. The free LED show set to music lights up starting at 5pm through the end of February.

More ideas for things to do this weekend in the Twin Cities with kids – Northeast Metro

Need indoor activity ideas? Try a new indoor play space!

For Minnesota parents it’s essential to know where to escape the elements and still keep the kids active and happy. During the months of November through March we try to highlight the best indoor playgrounds in the Minneapolis-St Paul area in the hopes of helping you add a new space to your list: This weekend we feature TROPICAL ADVENTURES INDOOR PLAYGROUND in Shoreview. My littles have had a ball climbing through the jungle-themed apparatus with its customary slides and caves. Make a day of visiting the Shoreview Community Center by hitting Tropics Indoor Waterpark (extra charges apply). $6.25-$6.75/child. 4580 Victoria St N, Shoreview, MN 55126.

Cozy up with the cats this weekend

Visit the Cafe Meow Roseville

1718A Lexington Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113
Here’s a cozy indoor activity idea for you: My youngest daughter simply loves cats but mean old mom just can’t add the responsibility of a pet to the family. Our solution? We book an hour at this sweet rescue coffee shop and she gets a fix without the extra work at home. Kids over 7 (with a parent) can show some love to the cats and sip a warm beverage. 11am-7pm, $10.50/pp.

SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR TEEN! I’ve got a 16-year-old daughter who appreciates a gentle yoga session. She also has a soft spot for cats. Cafe Meow’s Sunday Yoga With Cats event is a perfect blend of the two and a unique way for us to spend an hour together. Book online, ages 16+ only. February 17, 7:30pm. $25/pp.

Bell Museum: Space Fest

2088 Larpenteur Ave W, Falcon Heights, MN 55113
Far-out fun all weekend long at this natural history museum! Space enthusiasts will be excited to do hands-on demos with researchers, explore interactive activities featuring the moon and mars, and watch special planetarium shows. My family enjoys the museum enough that we have purchased a year’s membership. February 17-18, 2024, starting at 10am. Admission $12-$15/pp, planetarium $8-$10 extra or save with a combo ticket.

Wild Mountain Starlight Snow Tubing

37200 Wild Mountain Rd, Taylors Falls, MN 55084
There’s snow on the ground somewhere, you say? Yes, it’s been pretty scarce around the Twin Cities this winter but the white stuff is still available on Wild Mountain where we think the cosmic Starlight Snow Tubing looks pretty rad. A quick check of their calendar says that Sunday is already sold out, but there are tickets available for both Saturday and President’s Day Monday! Take a little day trip to the far northeast metro and seek out what might be the last you’ll see of winter (this year). Sat 12-8pm & Mon 12-4pm. $27/2-hr session.
