Teddy Bear Park near downtown Stillwater is a Twin Cities must-visit park. With its giant teddy bear statues, playground, and vicinity to beautiful city of Stillwater shopping district, it might be the perfect place for a family picnic and fun day out.

While it has the feel of a small amusement park, Teddy Bear Park is free to visit. The equipment is designed for children 7 years of age and younger. They will enjoy the train car play equipment, a climbing structure made to resemble the Stillwater Lift Bridge, and an engineered wall of cliffs to climb. Not a one of them will be able to resist the giant granite teddy bears residing in the park. The cobblestone trail and the resilient playground flooring that is designed to look like a river running through fields gives the whole park a wonderland feel.

Toddler notes: (1) It can be difficult to keep an eye on a fast tot in this park when it is busy. You may want to visit at a less busy time or bring back up in the form of bigger siblings. (2) The slides can get hot on sunny days.

Destination playground notes: We list this park among our destination playgrounds in the metro area because it is a unique park and requires a drive for many visitors. However, unlike many of our other selections, it may not hold your children’s attention for a full day. As Anne mentions above, it is great to include in a full-day visit to Stillwater.

If your plan is to make a day of it in Stillwater with kids, make sure to include a stop at Teddy Bear Park. I did just that not long ago, expecting the park to appeal mainly to my preschooler. And yes, she very much liked the train car play equipment and the climbing structure made to resemble the Stillwater Lift Bridge. She also got as cuddly as one can get with a giant granite teddy bear.

The pleasant surprise was how much my 5 and 7-year-old daughters enjoyed the engineered wall of cliffs that forms the southern boundary of the park. They loved the scooped-out little seats, tiny stairs built into the rocks, and, of course, flinging themselves off the cliffs into the sand more times than I could count. My two ground rules: no jumping off anything higher than Mom’s head, and no sprained ankles before the Minnesota State Fair!
