  1. Watch Ducks. Sometimes there are even swans on this pond.
  2. Go Fishing in Shakopee Memorial Pond.
  3. Play an Old-Fashioned Game of Horseshoe on the park’s court
  4. Run Wild on the Playground. This park has a pretty standard playground, but its big enough to accommodate a lot of children.
  5. Check out the Helicopter Memorial. Found right next to the playground and the parking lot, its hard to miss.
  6. Hike or Bike the Trails and the new Pedestrian Bridge.  These trails sometimes close due to high water levels. Check for trail conditions here before heading out.

  8. Pack a picnic. The park has grills, a shelter and plenty of green spaces.

Memorial Park Pedestrian Trail Bridge

In 2021, the city removed and replaced the pedestrian bridge between Memorial Park and Minnesota Valley State Trail to avoid culturally sensitive areas. After five years of closure due to structural concerns, the new bridge reopened in the late summer of 2021. Prior to the rebuild, archaeological investigations and studies were performed to ensure that the installation would not disturb any cultural and historic artifacts.

“This area was where the Mdewakanton Sioux settled prior to the arrival of European Settlers. “It was crucial that we kept this in mind as we realigned the trail.”

–Public Works/Engineering Director Steve Lillehaug.
