Highpoint Center for Printmaking brings print arts alive for kids and families with special events throughout the year. Printmaking is a fun artistic process of transferring ink to paper or fabric that families can do at home with stamps. Take it to a new level with the Highpoint professional printing studio during public events perfect for kids and families.

Highpoint Center for Printmaking is an organization dedicated to advancing the art of printmaking. Its goals are to provide educational programs, accessibility to all, and collaborative publishing opportunities to engage the public and increase the appreciation and understanding of the printmaking arts. It achieves these goals through classes, community events that are welcoming to everyone, as well as a rotating public gallery of locally made print art.

Family Fun at Highpoint Center for Printmaking

With younger kids and beginners, the family-friendly highlight is Highpoint’s FREE INK DAYS, where visitors can learn about different printing techniques at each visit. The featured activity can use relief printing, intaglio (metal plates), lithography, screen printing and/or monotyping. Learn more about why these days are perfect for kids in Anne’s article, Family Fun: Free Ink Day at Highpoint. Scroll to the bottom of this article to find the next public event to add to your own calendar. More opportunities for family fun include the annual Print Fest and Doors Open Minneapolis. Highpoint has been participating in Doors Open Minneapolis since its inception and welcomes the whole community to learn what they do during this fun weekend.

Printmaking can be messy business; plan to get inky. Aprons are provided, but you might want to dress in clothes you don’t care much for, just to be on the safe side.

For families with young artists who have gone beyond dabbling, Highpoint offers summer camps, workshops and private instruction. Older kids with an interest in and appreciation for printmaking may be inspired by regular visits to the Highpoint Galleries to view the latest exhibits of print art by Minnesota artists on display.

The Highpoint Gallery

The center maintains a rotating body of work by local, national, and international print artists in two galleries – the Main Gallery and the Threshold Gallery. Most work is offered for sale to the public.

Summer Camps at Highpoint

Highpoint Summer Camps are featured in our annual summer camp guide, where we provide up-to-date information on camps around the Twin Cities: Twin Cities Summer Camps: Visual Art Camps.
