If you’ve been reading FFTC for any length of time (even just a couple of weeks), you probably have figured out that we love good children’s literature. And I’m not talking about Little Golden Books (although they have their place–in our house we have a place for approximately 200 Little Golden Books, but that story is for another time). We love classics. We new releases. We love bookshops. We love libraries.
We love authors.
And the Twin Cities is home to many amazing authors–many of whom are children’s authors. One of our greatest privileges is to meet our favorite local celebrities: Stephen Shaskan, David LaRochelle, Stephanie Watson, Debra Frasier, Deborah Larson, Trisha Speed Shaskan, Mike Wohnoutka. I could go on. Everytime I get to meet an author, I literally quiver in my shoes.
Case in point: Meeting Molly Beth Griffin. I attended one of Molly’s classes at The Loft. While I was scribbling notes like a madman, I was mostly drinking in the fact that I was in the presence of a real live published author.
And she was so nice!
Molly’s picture books are beautiful bedtime books because she writes quiet books. They are sort of a poetry lulling readers into a gentle place even in the midst of a conundrum. Her newest book Rhoda’s Rock Hunt is a quiet adventure to traverse with your kiddos. Jennifer A. Bell was the illustrator complimenting the story perfectly.
Joy reviewed the book for you to read here.
Minnesota Historical Press is offering Rhoda’s Rock Hunt to one lucky reader.
