Join a park guide to explore GLACIAL potholes and the unique geology of Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls. Your guide will share stories and share how massive lava flows, glacial rivers and human interest in the area shaped the landscape. Keep your little ones close and you can have a great (if quite alert) time exploring the natural glacial potholes that dot the cliffs along the rushing St. Croix River in Interstate Park. My 3-year-old wanted to climb every rock staircase she could find and gaze into the depths of such geological marvels as the “Bake Oven” and the “Bottomless Pit”. The Pothole Trail is an easy walk from the parking lot, but there are a great number of steps to navigate in order to reach the best vistas. If you’ve got pre-walkers in the group, we recommend a hiking backpack. As kids get bigger, families can go rock climbing, canoeing or hiking for views of unique rock formations around the river.
