Description

Arguably, the Sunken Garden is the most classic of the balmy and bright rooms of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in Como Park. Certainly the most colorful, the garden swaps its blooms out multiple times per year, a seasonal delight for any age, particularly in the drudges of a Minnesota winter.

2026 Como Conservatory Spring Flower Show

From Como’s Sunken Garden website: Part I– This Spring, we have been inspired by the myths of Persephone and her garden. Persephone’s story is ripe with references to flowers and fruit, fallow fields, and even fatal fronds – encompassing the many seasons of life and love. Pomegranates and poppies will influence colors throughout the garden with creams, reds, and accents of darker hues. Tall foxgloves and stocky snapdragons will bring structure to the design and complement Narcissus poeticus daffodils. This show celebrates the cycle of seasonal transitions, infinite love, as well as the herculean effort it takes to grow and live a congruent life in vivid color.

Part II Peachy orange blooms with purple and blue accents dominate the second spring flower display. Some warm hued highlights include; Asiatic lily Lava Joy, Calla lily ‘Havana’, Hibiscus ‘Orange Sunset’, and peach colored begonias. Deep blue verbena, lobelia, and fragrant heliotrope accent the flower show.

Note that the Sunken Garden closes briefly between shows.
