Outdoors, find the popular Shoreview Commons Park with its Challenge Course. While the facility also offers state-of-the art fitness studios that parents may enjoy, we focus here on the family-friendly aspects of the complex. There is plenty to keep a family with kids of all ages busy for a full day. There is even am area where you can take a lunch break and purchase concessions or bring your own food. Tropics Indoor Waterpark and Tropical Adventure Indoor Playground are both open to the public with a daily pass. Tropical Adventure is open to children ages 1-10 and Tropics & Bamboo Bay Waterparks are all ages. Admission also includes the fitness center and track for those 13 and over and use of open gym times for all ages. Just outside the community center is Shoreview’s newest destination playground that offers outdoor fun for all ages — babies through teens and adults. This tree-fort inspired playgrounds offers active play and tiny details, like a small butterfly carved into a tree-shaped structure. The playground includes: Besides green space for running, the park contains a skate park, challenge course and a duck pond with walking trails. There are multiple picnic shelter areas and grills for cooking out. Since opening, baby swings have recently been added to the playground, making it more baby-friendly. Tropical Adventures is open Monday – Friday, 8 am – 8 pm, Saturday, noon-8 pm, and Sunday, noon-6 pm. This is an unsupervised playground and children must be accompanied by an adult. The jungle-themed play structure offers caves to crawl through the caves, a waterfall slide, and a five level spiral slide. The playground was recently expanded and now features additional seating, a large toddler area, and a party space available for rent. The indoor waterpark has a tropical theme as well. Families will enjoy it because it has areas designed for every age and there are family dressing areas in the locker rooms. Bamboo Bay is the new waterpark expansion ideal for children 10 and under and has slides, sprayers and buckets, a large play structure, zero-depth entry, and cabanas on the pool deck available for rent. Another area great for little ones is Shipwreck Beach, a zero-depth entry play area with a shipwreck boat slide, palm tree splashpad and a water walk. The shallow pool is great for toddlers and preschoolers. Tropics, the large main pool, offers bigger kids and adults space to play water sports or float on a sea creature. The three-story “Shark Attack” water slide allows participants to choose their own music as they slide down. Parents will appreciate that this facility has a lap swim pool. There is also a whirlpool and sitting area for the adults (18 and older). However, it is pool policy that an adult must be in the water with and within arms reach of all children 6 and under. As anyone with multiple children of this age group knows, this is nearly impossible for an adult escorting more than one child, so be prepared to bring back up when taking younger siblings. The community center is home to special events throughout the year. These include: The Community Center has several party options to choose from. Exclusive packages are available if you want the place to yourself, or you can rent a space for cake and gifts and visit the waterpark and playground while they’re open to the public. The facility is equipped to handle wedding receptions, so you’ll find both bit and small rooms available to reserve. Bonus for Procrastinators: You can book a party as late as the Wednesday before the party (dependent on availability). Open gym times are subject to change but are offered daily for sports like basketball, pickleball and volleyball. The walking track and fitness center are open when the building is open.
