This is a Press Release Share from Red Balloon Bookshop.  What a great way to Christmas shop locally and meet some local celebrities.

IMG_0871Red Balloon Bookshop is pleased to announce that a fantastic group of local authors and illustrators are joining the ranks of Red Balloon Staff as Personal Shoppers on Small Business Saturday, November 30.  Throughout the day, Anne Greenwood Brown, Nancy Carlson, John Coy, Brian Farrey, Debra Frasier, David LaRochelle, Kurtis Scaletta, and Lauren Stringer, all Twin Cities residents, will don official Red Balloon nametags and be on hand to help shoppers select their perfect gifts!  A full schedule of these authors is available at

Hundreds of independent bookstores across the country will be hosting local authors this November 30, Small Business Saturday, thanks to a movement called Indies First.  As the brain-child of noted author Sherman Alexie, Indies First encourages authors to volunteer at their local store, to give back some of the support that independent bookstores have traditionally given to authors.

Indies First also encourages authors—and anybody who wants to sell a book through a website—to make the Indie “Buy” button the FIRST among all e-retailer choices on their websites.

Other participating Indies First stores and authors may be found on

Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is a day dedicated to helping support the local businesses that help to create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods.  Last year, U.S. consumers who were aware of Small Business Saturday reported spending $5.5 billion with independently-owned businesses on the day, based on the Small Business Saturday Insights Survey, making a big impact on local communities.

Besides Family Fun Twin Cities, I spend my 9 to 5 at a day job pursuing my weird passion for calendars and organizing things as a legal secretary. When I get home I spend my time with my four kids, 10, 6, 4 and 1. My amazing husband is both a full-time musician and full-time stay-at-home dad. Together we run a small radio empire — SiaNet Radio — playing, promoting and enjoying the wide variety of local music and art in the Twin Cities. I juggle all this while writing about exploring the Twin Cities with kids. I couldn’t be happier.
