Lake Waconia Regional Park is a 160-acre park in Waconia Minnesota, managed by Carver County. Family-friendly amenities include a beach, space to picnic with grills and a boat launch. Weather permitting, there is an 80-foot sledding hill in the winter months. Because it is a shoreline park, it is the site of Independence Day Fireworks in July.

7 Ideas for Family Fun at Lake Waconia Regional Park

  1. Swim in Lake Waconia at the park’s swimming beach. The beach is a popular destination because it is well maintained and was most-recently updated in 2008. Carver County beaches are unguarded as of 2024. The beach is open from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. The beach is open when the park is open – 6am-10pm.
  2. Walk around Lake Waconia park. The asphalt trail loop is just under a mile and open during park hours. There are interpretive signs along the route. Look for pollinator plant varieties that support bee keeping operations within the park and restored wetland species.
  3. Go Fishing. Lake Waconia is good for fishing along the southern shore of Lake Waconia. The Minnesota DNR tells us their are a large variety of fish species in this lake. There is a special regulation on Walleye in Lake Waconia. They must be a minimum of 16 inches.
  4. Pack a picnic and grill out while you play.
  5. Search for Geocaches. There are four caches hidden in this park. This location does not rent GPS units, so you will need to bring your own.
  6. Sled in the Winter. The park is open year round. December through March (weather permitting), it is a popular sledding spot. The sledding hill is 80 feet and open from 10am to dusk.
  7. Canoe to Coney Island of the West. This 34-acre island is open to visitors providing a beautiful picnic area and hiking trails. It can only be reached via personal watercraft.

Paradise Commons – Waterfront Service Center

In October of 2022, Carver County broke ground on the waterfront service center beach house. Completed in the fall of 2023, the new building offers park information and equipment rental, lakeshore access, covered seating and restrooms to visitors using the beach and picnic areas, trails, and other site amenities.

Birthday Parties at Lake Waconia

Paradise Commons offers a reservable event space  and rental concessions for private events like birthday parties. There is also a reservable picnic shelter.

The reservable community room can hold up to 80 people and features a kitchen with serving space, a projector screen and AV services, and access to seasonal outdoor seating.
