The Twin City Model Railroad Museum (“TCMRM”) started in 1934 with a small group of model railroad enthusiasts and has grown to a world-class museum featuring model trains. In 2016, TCMRM moved into its current space in St Paul, allowing for expanded exhibits and new attractions. If you have young train enthusiasts, TCMRM has the best collection of toy trains in the Midwest and continues to add hands on and interactive exhibits. For instance, there is a train table for small kids and some exhibits allow visitors to operate the controls.
Preschoolers love model trains
This is a good outing with preschool kids. Children 4 and under are always free at TCMRM and they sometimes offer special weekday tot times during the school year. When they tire of looking at exhibits you can spend some time at the train table in the back. You can find a family bathroom in the museum.

- Night Trains – Runs through the holiday season

- Circus Trains – Spring and fall
- Military Trains – Veterans Day and Memorial Day
Birthday parties at TCMRM
TCMRM offers birthday parties that include a private room for 2 hours, museum passes for up to 15 people, and place settings. Add-ons like a cake are available. As always, birthday families can also take advantage of group discounts for larger groups. Guided tours can also be arranged to learn even more about the history of the museum and model trains!

Discounts and membership rates
- Regular admission is $10 per person ages 5+. Groups of 10 or more received discounted admission of $8 per person.
- Special events admission such as Night Trains is $15 per person.
- TCMRM offers a household membership level at $129/year. This includes one family admission per year to night trains and unlimited family admission during regular hours. It also includes some discounts and two guest passes per year. Treat visiting family when they come to the Twin Cities.
Directions & parking
The museum is located just north of University Avenue near the Cretin exit off Interstate-94. Look for signs on both the boulevard and above the main entrance. Parking is free.
