Swing Bridge Park gives visitors the chance to walk 680 feet out over the Mississippi River on a piece of history. The pier is what remains of the historic Rock Island Swing Bridge, the last toll bridge in the Twin Cities Metro area. The bridge closed to traffic in 1999 and it sat decaying until fundraising efforts transformed the landmark into a public park. Check out views of the river from the bridge and views of the impressive bridge from a scenic overlook in the park.
The park displays historical items from the original Swing Bridge including an arch, railroad tracks, and a large gear.
Things to do at Swing Bridge Park
There is a small picnic shelter located in the park that can be reserved for gatherings. Paved walking trails will bring you to the scenic overlook and right up to the pier. There is a connection to the Mississippi River Regional Trail, which passes within a block of the park.
Plan your visit to Swing Bridge Park
A trailhead facility for the Mississippi River Regional Trail is located at the park. Trail users will find bike fix-it stations, restrooms, water and benches. There is no playground equipment at the park.
