Located in the heart of Dinkytown, the University of Minnesota’s Northrop Memorial Auditorium has a mission to be the epicenter of discovery and transformation that connects the university to the community through academics, art and performance. The auditorium has several rooms, stages and spaces, including: The Carlson Family Stage, the Best Buy Theater and the Northrop Gallery. You will also find the Goldstein Museum of Design, conference and meeting rooms, an Atrium, a broadcasting rehearsal studio, study lounges, a lab, and the plaza.

Explore the Architecture

If you visit for a show or event, leave a little time to explore. The hall is grand and its architecture is beautiful. As you explore you’ll find interesting spaces tucked throughout the building, including several nooks where you can unpack a picnic and a restaurant if you prefer to be spontaneous.

Getting to Northrop Memorial Auditorium

Because it is in busy Dinkytown, parking can sometimes be hard to find. For information on getting there — including bus routes — and parking, check Northrop’s website. Pre-paid parking is a useful tool for guaranteeing a parking space without searching.

Note: You may want to take weather into account when choosing a pre-paid parking spot. When we attended a performance on a cold January afternoon, we were directed to a parking ramp several blocks away. It was a bitterly cold walk. I believe we could have found a closer parking ramp using a map.
