Lone Lake Park in Minnetonka is a 146-acre community park with trails connecting it to Bryant Lake Regional Park and Shady Oak Beach. These trails may be too long of walks with small children (a mile and a half to Bryant Lake and just under a mile to Shady Oak Beach), but would make nice bike rides. Family-friendly amenities at this park include a playground, a skate park, sports fields and courts and space to picnic. The park has off-street parking and seasonal restrooms available. Restrooms are on a timer system that opens at dawn and closes at dusk. The

Winter at Lone Lake Park

To facilitate snowshoeing, the city does not plow Lone Lake’s trails when it snows. There is a wide hill with medium slope that would make a good Sledding hill. (Read more about Minnetonka sledding here).

Lone Lake Playground

The playground has good-sized standard equipment on a woodchip surface with a separated tot lot. There is also a separate swing area. The landscaping around the park equipment is beautiful and there are benches for parents to sit on while the kids play.

Lone Lake Nature Trail

The park offers trails for both walking and biking. The Lone Lake Nature Trail loops around the park with 11 interpretive sign stations to introduce walkers to the area wildlife. Also look for a monarch way station. Maybe you’ll see caterpillars or eggs if you look close enough. The trail boasts scenic views of the various ecological areas in the park, including wetlands, woodlands and prairies. (Find a printable Minnetonka Parks and Trails Maps Here.)

Lone Lake Park Mountain Bike Trail

The Lone Lake Park Multi-Use* Mountain Bike Trail is five mile terrain through the Big Woods that accommodates bikers of various levels. More experienced riders appreciate the steep terrain, which offers more vertical gain per mile than any other in the western metro. The short loop makes it a quick and easy ride when you don’t have all day to ride. Access the trail from Rowland Road, Shady Oak Road or from the Minnesota River Bluffs Trail.

*The trail is also open to hikers, runners and snowshoers.

In 2021, the City of Minnetonka opened this bike trail and since then, it has seen thousands of riders. Learn more about the mountain bike trail here and find a Lone Lake Park Trail Map, too.

Lone Lake Minnetonka – Fishing & Canoeing

The park sits on Minnetonka’s Lone Lake. While there is water access for canoeing and fishing, this lake would not be appropriate for swimming as it is full of water plants, but you may see turtles and frogs if you look carefully. If you are interested in swimming you’ll want to head north up Shady Oak Road to the beach.

Birthday Parties at Lone Lake Park

The picnic shelter at this park can be reserved for birthday parties and other private during the summer months. The shelter can hold up to 125 people and seat 50.  Amenities include BBQ grills, Walking trails, nearby sports fields and courts and playground.
