The Hennepin History Museum is located near the Minneapolis Institute of Art and across Third Avenue from Washburn Fair Oaks Park. The museum’s mission is to bring the diverse history of Hennepin County and its residents to life through exhibitions, library, collections, public events, and educational programs.
Visiting HHM with Kids
This is a very small museum that you can thoroughly tour in 15 minutes. It could make a nice addition to a visit to the MIA with bigger kids or a perfectly short visit with small children. The space is sometimes tight and the artwork and antiques are within easy reach of small hands. We were careful to remind our kids as we walked in to use their indoor voices and keep their hands to themselves.
Exhibits change out rather quickly. You could make a monthly visit and find new things each time.
If you need to bring a stroller, bring an umbrella stroller. You’ll be going up a couple flights of stairs to visit the galleries.
