A venture to Hansen Tree Farm in Ramsey, Minnesota, could be a brisk, invigorating family outing and your newest holiday tradition rolled into one. Just ask this author’s sister – who, by the way, detests the cold but braves it right after Thanksgiving to make warm memories with her husband and their children. The farm, located about 30 miles northwest of their home in St Paul, is where they select and cut their own fresh Christmas tree each year.

Cutting your own Christmas tree at Hansen Tree Farm

- An all-inclusive experience: Your fee covers your choice of tree, any height, any species PLUS special extras including hot cocoa or apple cider, Christmas sausages (weekends only) and a hayride.

- A beautiful forest to wander and find your perfect fit of firs, pines and spruce. Want wreaths, swags or other greenery? Those are available too, pre-made onsite or you can customize during your visit.
- Ease and convenience: You’ll be well-equipped with all the necessary tools to select and cut your tree – easy to read map of the farm, a saw and the services provided by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They will trim, bale and fasten the tree atop your vehicle.
- No need to book a reservation! In fact, they don’t even take them. Plenty of room and supply for all!

About Hansen Tree Farm in Ramsey
We love talking up local, family-run businesses here at FFTC. Hansen Tree Farm is a prime example of a multi-generational operation run by folks who have had a lifelong passion for cultivating beautiful, award-winning greenery. (Really! I typically note they sweep up at the Minnesota State Fair in the Christmas tree division.) On a personal level, I recognize the owner as having volunteered much of his time and talents to a pair of local youth organizations very near and dear. The whole extended Hansen family is a pillar in our little corner of the Twin Cities; you can support their farm confident they’ll turn and invest right back.
