Armatage Park and Rec Center are located just off Penn Avenue in South Minneapolis. Family-friendly amenities include a playground, a wading pool and a skate park. There is a Little Free Library onsite. Minneapolis Parks and Rec also maintains an outdoor ice rink in the winter.
MPRB completed a playground update in Armatage Park in August of 2021. New amenities include:
- New playground equipment designed for universal accessibility.
- Surfacing of existing play areas.
- An ADA-accessible swing
- A belt swing
- 2 infant swings
- A tire swing.
Armatage Skate Park
One of the six current skate parks in Minneapolis is located in Armatage Park. Skaters particularly like the ledge and the smooth riding surface of the concrete base. MPRB has recently collected feedback on its skate parks and is in the process of implementing a 20-year plan to improve and expand the number of the skate parks in the city.
Summer at Armatage Park
Although the playground and skate park are not exclusively for use in summer, warmer months make both activities more enjoyable. Other summer activities include:
Free Summer Meals for Kids program
Armatage Park traditionally participates in the summer meals program, offering free weekday meals to children under 18 years old. Meal time can vary from year to year. Find an up-to-date park list and meal times here.
Armatage Park wading pool
Armatage Park shares space with Armatage Elementary School; therefore, its wading pool is open mid-June through late August, just prior to school resuming. The pool is free to use between the hours 10 am to 9 pm daily. There are no lifeguards on duty.
Winter at Armatage Park
In the winter months, Armatage maintains outdoor skating rinks for both hockey and skating. There is a warming room and some free loaner skates available.
Armatage Park Recreation Center
The Recreation Center’s amenities include a community kitchen, craft room, gym and some rentable meeting rooms. The game room has a pool table and table hockey game.
Birthday parties at Armatage Rec Center
MPRB offers park facilities for private events, like birthday parties! Individuals and groups are encouraged to use the centers and park spaces for self-directed activities. There are different permit requirements and special use fees, depending on the use.
