I grew up in Minnesota– all over. I was born in Moorhead, moved to Fergus Falls area, lived on the North Shore, and lived in western Minnesota. Now, as you know, I am a part of the masses that make up the Twin Cities.
I love Minnesota. I have a Minnesota pride that is hard to beat, and I am passing that along to my kids. Although with a dad from and two sets of grandparents currently live in Wisconsin, they have a strong affinity for the neighbor to our East.
And honestly, I am okay with that.
Despite that fact, some of my best memories come from my growing up years in Morris, Minnesota. I was nine when we moved to Morris, and I remember playing in the garage a lot. If it was empty, I would get on my bike and ride in circles pretending to ride a horse in a circus. If the car was parked inside, I would crawl into the car and pretend to drive.
One time, my mom had left the keys in the ignition. (My mom didn’t know I played in the car, or I’m positive she would have never left the keys inside it.) I wanted to see what it was like to turn the car on.
So I turned the keys in the ignition and the car lurched forward. Unfortunately, my brother was in front of the car. The car knocked him down pinning him to the wall. I don’t know what happened after that except that my brother wasn’t hurt and he was able to escape.
We never told our mom.
In honor of the memory, Totally Kids Furniture and Toys has provided us with a pack of four keychains for one lucky winner. It’s a pretty fun pack of historical and current leadership figures: Ghandi, Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and Barak Obama. These would make fun gifts for teachers or for kids to learn about history and current affairs.
