Charles M. Schulz Highland Arena is a year-round ice rink in St. Paul’s Highland neighborhood providing indoor fun for ice skaters in the area. A second rink is open from mid-October through mid-March. The building also houses additional family-friendly amenities, including a multi-purpose room that can be rented for birthday parties, a synthetic ice training area and a weight room training area.

Highland Ice Arena Open Skate

Beginning in 2017, Ramsey County declared open skate at this rink (and TCO Sports Center) to be FREE for the public. Skate Rental increased to $10 in 2021, but sharpening remained $5.00. Open skate times vary, and an up-to-date calendar can be found here or on our calendar.

Birthday Parties at Charles M. Schulz Highland Arena

Highland Arena offers two types of birthday party packages – open skate or private rental.

1. Open Skate Birthday Parties

Party packages during open skate times include the use of the multi-purpose room for one hour to have a party and are available to groups of 20+. Families can bring their own food and beverages, but these must be kept in the party room. Food is not allowed on the ice or in the stands. These birthday parties are ideal for kids as young as 4 up through teens.

2. Private Rental Birthday Parties

Families can also reserve the rink for a private party by purchasing ice time. This includes skate rental for any guests  who need them. As with the open skate party, the family has use of meeting room and may bring their own food and beverages into that area only.

Summer Camps at Charles M. Schulz Arena

Look for hockey camps offered by outside organizations held at the arena.  Kids can work on their hockey and skating skills with trained coaches.

Updates to Highland Arena

Construction began at Highland Arena in 2021 to improve the site HVAC equipment, stormwater management, parking, pedestrian traffic flow and landscaping. The City of St. Paul expects construction to be completed by October 2021. While the arena and parking lot remain open throughout the entire construction process, on-site parking may be limited and access to the building may be altered. Follow paths and signs provided.
