Romantic Valentine’s Day date ideas
Valentine’s Dining Experience at Como Conservatory
1225 Estabrook Drive St. Paul, MN 55103
My special someone has been hinting around about this fine dining experience for years: a gourmet prix fixe meal, adult beverages and dessert included, served under the balmy glass palm dome. You also get the satisfaction of knowing the cost of your meal is pumped back into caring for the exotic plants and animals at Como Zoo & Conservatory. But here’s the thing – this dinner is one of the hottest tickets in town and books up faster than my dance card. If you don’t get a rezzie this year, plan ahead for next or check the website for cancellations. February 13-15, 2025, seatings between 5:30-8pm. $190 per couple.
Valentine’s Soiree at Wabasha Street Caves
215 Wabasha St. S, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55107
The gangsters that used to party in these very caves back in the ’20s sure knew a thing or two about romance. Step back into their brogues at this classy Valentine’s event featuring the Red Rock Swing Band, appetizers and possibly one of the longest bars you’ve bellied up to. What your ticket does not include is the historic cave tour; I recommend you slot that in for a future date if you love learning about shady St Paul lore. Or head to the caves most Thursday nights to add on a swing dance lesson to your tour package. Soiree February 14, 2025, 6pm. $30/pp. Historic tours, $15. Thursday Tour plus Swing Night combo, $25.
MAKE IT KID FRIENDLY Wabasha Street Caves offers a special “Troll Tales” tour designed to appeal to your young ones under 9. Second Sunday/month, $10/pp.

February Snowshoe Tour of Franconia Sculpture Park
29836 St Croix Trail N, Shafer, MN 55074
One of the Ranger’s most romantic February dates of all time involved a matched pair of snowshoes, a few wrong turns and a brief but bonafide blizzard. Have I hooked you yet? Bundle up your loved one and head to Franconica Sculpture Park for a guided snowshoe tour of their quirky collection complete with warm bevs and a bonfire. No powder pack on the ground? You’ll take a hike instead. Secure your spot ahead as space is limited. February 8, 2025, 1pm. $25/pp. And remember, Franconia makes for a great date any of the remaining 300-some odd days this year. The park is always open for self-guided tours and admission is always free.

Artsy date ideas
Minneapolis Institute of Ice
2400 Third Avenue S, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404
This is an indoor-outdoor hybrid date situation, but still packs the romance, let me assure you. Hit up this month’s Meet at Mia for iconic Minnesota nightlife: unveiling of ice sculptures, a DJ, free cider and cocoa (also an ice bar for those who’d like it harder). When you’ve chilled out enough, head indoors to wander MIA’s collections and have deep, heated discussions about the art. Opening February 6, 2025, 5-9pm. Can’t make the date? The sculptures are on view until nature decides otherwise. FREE and open every day except Monday.
MAKE IT KID FRIENDLY MIA’s Family Day is February 9. It’s full of great ways for the youngsters to engage with art: storytelling, dance performances, collage making and more. All admission-free.
Winter festival getaway dateÂ
Stillwater Winterfest
I’m extra jazzed to share this date idea with you because I’m fresh off a weekend in Stillwater myself. Arguably the romance capital of the greater Twin Cities, one night was not enough to experience all Stillwater has to offer for couples: a walkable downtown main stuffed with great bars and restaurants, live music and dialed-up to-dos like Winterfest. Between February 19-23 you can hit up a parka pub crawl, sample casseroles and swig cocktails, dance it all off, go back to your boutique hotel and start again fresh the next day. Feel free to hit me up for further recommendations. Festival season or not, Stillwater always makes for a memorable date.
