The Murder on the Links playbill - Theatre in the Round, Minneapolis, MN. Nov 21-Dec 21, 2025.

Read the book: The Murder on the Links: A Hercule Poirot Mystery by Agatha Christie

If you would like a non-Christmasy stage performance to share with your older children and teens who have outgrown children’s theater, but not their love of a relaxed, interactive theater experience, Theatre in the Round could be your next step. Likewise, if your mystery-loving reader has outgrown the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys-style books, Agatha Christie is often recommended as a first step into adult mystery books. Kids as young as 11 or 12 will be able to follow the story and the material is never overly-mature. Now through December 21st, Theatre in the Round is performing Agatha Christie’s The Murder on the Links.

A Murder on the Links

The Murder on the Links was a fun play intertwining comedy with mystery with just the tiniest dash of romance. While not interactive to the point of audience participation, the element of mystery gives the audienec something to puzzle out as the story develops. Theatre in the Round’s atmosphere is artistic-casual. Many people come in jeans while others use it as an excuse to dress up a little. Your teen/tween will be appropriate in their day-to-day choice of attire. If you do want to dress for the show, I’d recommend getting out your favorite 1920s-style costumes – flapper, speakeasy, pinstripe, etc.

Show Info

The show runs 2 hours and 20 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. During intermission, grab the play’s signature mocktail – The Cat’s Paw.  If you feel the 7:30pm Friday or Saturday show is going to run a little late for your younger tween, there are Sunday matinee’s that start at 2pm. For a budget-friendly option, consider the Pay What You Can Performance on Monday, December 1st. Pay-What-You-Can tickets start at $10/pp.

Theatre in the Round

One thing we love about this theatre, which isn’t always the case with an arena stage set up, is the great sound quality. The entire theatre is built to project voices, the sound system is top of the line and everything was perfectly mixed. The room was properly treated for the sound, and they had a good placement of speakers. I had no problem hearing the dialogue. Even when the actors were offstage or in one of the secondary stage areas in a certain direction, we knew exactly where to look based on the direction of the sound.

Find information on parking here. We found the 19th Avenue Ramp to be a really good deal – $4.00 for the whole evening in downtown Minneapolis.

Bringing it Home

I know that as our kids get older, we don’t have to work as hard to build on their theatre experiences, but if they enjoy it, we have a few ides for adding to this experience at home.

  1. If you read the book ahead, you could create a bulletin board of the characters (aka the suspects) as you meet them and try to find motives, hidden clues and links between the characters. Did you guess the conclusion? How long did it take you?
  2. Play a Murder Mystery game at home. We find these unused at thrift stores pretty regularly and they can make a fun family night.
  3. Listen to some 1920s-era music at dinner — maybe jazz or ragtime.
  4. Keep going. Agatha Christie wrote 33 Hercule Poirot novels and 51 short stories.
