Just a couple of blocks south from U.S. Bank Stadium, Elliot Park sits across 8th Street from Hennepin County Medical Center in Downtown Minneapolis. Family-friendly amenities include a playground with tot lot (both soon to be replaced with new equipment), a wading pool (soon to be replaced with a splash pad) and a skate park. It also has sports courts and fields and picnic areas, all coming together to offer a green space in the middle of downtown.

Elliot Park Skatepark

The skate park, originally built in 2004, was replaced in 2021. It is one of the six skate parks currently maintained by MPRB. While skaters have always liked the park’s central location they found the placement of features to be awkward and difficult to maneuver. The expanded and enhanced skate park is the largest in Minneapolis and includes a variety of new features, including a skateable seat wall, quarter pipe, rail and ledges.

Minneapolis Parks also added patio seating and planted and seeded raingardens, a pollinator-friendly lawn, and new trees. Many of the old skate features that were removed were repurposed to expand the skate park at Creekview Park.

Besides the updates to the skate park, light poles were added to the athletic field, allowing evening play. New rain gardens and a permeable patio help infiltrate runoff from the skate park. Existing pedestrian and path lighting has been replaced throughout the park. Additional bike racks were added; this park already had a bike pump available.

Free Summer Meals for kids at Elliot Park

Elliot Park has traditionally participated in the summer meals program, offering children under 18 years old a free weekday meals during summer break.

Elliot Recreation Center

Elliot Recreation Center is one of the air conditioned park buildings. The public can use the computer lab and multi-purpose room during open hours. There is a kitchen, craft room and meeting rooms available to rent.

Birthday parties in the park

MPRB wants you to use your park facilities to their full potential! Individuals and groups are encouraged to use the centers and park spaces for self-directed activities. There are different permit requirements and special use fees, depending on the use.
