Lake Rebecca Park Reserve offers families a playground, a beach and walking trails through wetlands. It is also part of the Three Rivers Park District Trumpeter Swan restoration program. This park reserve in Rockford is sometimes confused with the similarly named Lake Rebecca Park in Hastings, however they are 60 miles apart and on different Lake Rebeccas. The beach is located on the north shore of Lake Rebecca. It is traditionally free to visit, but unguarded, and is usually open between Memorial Day and Labor Day from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Aimed at children ages 5 to 12, the Big Woods Play Area has a log cabin and fort theme. Kids can go on a scavenger hunt for various animals hidden among the play structures, including a bald eagle that sits atop the fort. There is also a plant scavenger hunt. Restrooms are situated nearby. Lake Rebecca is one of the Three Rivers Parks that participates in its Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program. Your family can see swans year-round while hiking the trail around the Kasma Marsh, but fall is a particularly good time to visit when several hundred swans gather to winter. However, the park district reminds visitors to respect the swans and their park habitat by following all park ordinances, remaining on designated trails, avoiding close proximity to the birds. Please do not feed the wild animals. Three Rivers launched this project 1966 and in 1968 the Trumpeter Swan Society was formed to support the program. One original pair of swans has expanded to over 12,000 birds today. Three Rivers suggests that the best times to spot beavers are early mornings or late evening hours. They recommend waiting patiently on a dock or trail near a Lake Rebecca or Crow River. This park has two outdoor structures that could be used for birthday parties and other private events. Both the Beachside and the Lakeview shelters can hold up to 1000 people and can be rented through Three Rivers Park District. The park has over 25 miles of walking trails – both paved and unpaved. The hiking trail is a 15.6 mile single loop through the park that connects to the north edge of the park. There is an 8.1 mile paved trail where leashed dogs can be walked. Pedestrians may also use the 13.25 mile single-track mountain bike trail but will need to be aware of bikers. This trail was designed to challenge a variety of mountain bike skill levels and replaced the previous shorter mountain bike trail. This lake is a state breeding lake for Muskie eggs, which are collected and distributed throughout Minnesota. The muskie typically number fewer than 120 and take five years or longer to mature. Because of this, when fishing this lake, the public is asked to use methods that minimize stressing the muskies.
