8 Ideas for Family Fun at Thomas Lake Park

  1. Let the kids play on the playground. It is small and geared toward younger kids (ages 2-5 years old), but it is close to the picnic pavilion so parents can rest in the shade while the kids play.
  2. Volley a Ball around the sand volleyball court. We’ve started keeping a playground ball* in the car for opportunities like this.
  3. Take a nature walk. The paved walking paths loop around the lake through wooded areas, prairies and wetlands.  Expect an approximately 2.5-mile walk
  4. Fish Thomas Lake.
  5. Try Pond Dipping off the fishing dock
  6. Download the “Little Habitats on the Prairies” resource from the Minnesota DNR’s Young Naturalist program and “explore the elements that make up a prairie landscape” before, after or even during your visiting.
  7. Pack a picnic. The park has a charcoal grill, fire ring, and reservable pavilion.
  8. Cross Country Ski in the winter.
