At almost 110 years old, Newell Park is one of the oldest parks in Saint Paul and offers families 10 acres of rolling hills and old oak trees to explore. Family friendly amenities include a playground, a grill, firepit and picnic tables. There are also sports courts and fields. The park offers restrooms, benches for sitting and a shelter.

  1. Hit the Playground. There is more than one play area at Newell Park, the main playground, a tot lot, and swings. The main playground is a standard play structure with tubes an slides. The floor is sand.
  2. Have a Picnic or a BBQ. The park has plenty of space for picnics, including picnic tables and shelters and a BBQ grill.
  3. Take a Walk Together. The park offers paved walking paths wide enough to easily accommodate a stroller (or bikes). Stop along the way to take a rest on the big bench swing
  4. Play a Little One-on-One. Bring a basketball to take advantage of the court.
  5. Enjoy a Bonfire with S’mores. The fire pit does not require a reservation or a permit and is available on a first come basis.
  6. Play a Little Kickball. Bring a playground ball and have a family game of kickball on the softball field.

Birthday Parties at Newell Park

Newell Park has a Double Shelter and a Park Building available for private rentals. To reserve a shelter, call 651-632-5111 between 7am. to 3:30pm on weekdays.

Shelter

The shelter seats approximately 60 people. It has electricity, but the city warns that too many  electric items may cause overloads on the power source.

The Park Building

Four year round birthday parties, families can rent the 4-season building. It holds up to 100 people and has a full kitchen and a dining area. It heated during the cold months.
