Monroe Park in Richfield is a 9.5 acre neighborhood park with family-friendly amenities including a playground, walking paths, space for picnics and sports fields and courts.

5 Ideas for Family Fun at Monroe Park

  1. Stroll along the walking path. Perfect for families with smaller kids, this path is only 0.7 miles long and circles each half of the park. The path is paved, making it ideal for strollers, kids learning to bike or skaters.
  2. Pack a picnic. There is a small open-air picnic pavilion in the middle of the park and plenty of green space to spread a blanket.
  3. Let the Kids Run on the Playground.  Bring a blanket to sit on. There isn’t great seating around the playground.
  4. Sled in the Winter.
  5. Bring a Playground to play:
    • Kickball on the softball diamond;
    • Dodgeball in the green space/soccer field.
    • HORSE on the basketball court; or
    • Volleyball on the park’s sand court.

Monroe Park Playground

The Monroe Park playground was replaced and updated in the spring of 2023. New play equipment includes a climbing structure, merry-go-round, swing set and one park bench for parents.

Sledding at Monroe Park

Recommended as a sledding park by the City, a hill circles the perimeter of the park and a ridge runs through the middle of the park providing the popular sledding hill at this location. Find more Twin Cities Sledding Hills Here.

Birthday Parties in the Park

The picnic pavilion is available to rent for birthday parties and other private events. The shelter has a charcoal grill, but no electricity. It is located on a small hill between the playground and the basketball and volleyball courts, so you can see both from the picnic area. Mature trees shade the pavilion from too much sunlight. Rentals are priced per 4-hour block and are discounted for residents of Richfield.
