A show at Stages Theatre Company is a fun and inexpensive outing with kids. An educational theatre, it produces kid-friendly plays featuring students & adults. Located in Hopkins, you will find plays based on fairy tales, classic books and local authors prevalent among their productions. They will also often bring in a young audience or junior version of kid friendly Broadway plays. While they employ some adults, the majority of their actors are children and teens. Stages strives to provide high-quality, accessible theatre for young audiences. Learn more about Sensory Friendly programming HERE. Hopkins is a bit of a haul from the north side of the metro, so when we go we like to make a day of it. We arrived early enough to get dinner and walk around a little. Hopkins Main Street is called “Art Street” because it has great little art exhibits you can explore on your own. With a smart phone, you can scan the QR codes to see a video about each piece at Think Hopkins. So it makes a great walking tour. The Hopkins Center for the Arts (the home of Stages Theatre) also has galleries that are free and open to the public. Other places to visit along Main Street include: Check out FFTC’s Guide to Twin Cities Summer Camps to learn more about summer programming at Stages. Group tickets are available to shows at a discounted rate. In addition, The Hopkins Center for the Arts has rooms available to rent for private parties, like birthday parties. Combining a show with a room rental can actually be a pretty-affordable birthday party.
