7 Fun Things for Families at Scott Count Libraries

  1. Attend a FamilyFriendly Event. From early literacy and story times to elementary school activities to events for teens and tweens and even adults, find upcoming events on the libraries calendar. Scroll to the bottom for a link.
  2. Take advantage of online resources from anywhere. Read two books a day (or as many as you want) with BookFlix, find resources for research assignments, take self-paced tutorials and workshops, find your next book based on past favorites and so much more with the libraries online resources.
  3. Get Homework Help. Use your library card to access Homework HelpNow Online Tutoring: Both kids and adults can get live, online tutoring from 1-11 pm seven days a week (closed on major holidays). Find a link among the library’s online resources. You’ll need your library card number to access the service.
  4. Check out Tickets to Shows and Exhibits. Scott County is part of the MELSA system and offers patrons the option to check out free or reduced-priced smARTpass tickets to area arts activities and museums.
  5. Borrow Games. Patrons can borrow both tabletop games and outdoor games. They also maintain a free puzzle exchange. Donate your gently used puzzles and take a new one.
  6. Facilitate Your Movie Marathon with Binge Boxes. Scott County has curated DVD sets containing 5-6 movies with common themes like – Family Fun Night, Armchair Travel, Civil Rights, Disney Animated Gems and plenty more.
  7. Books. Don’t forget books! Get traditional books, e-books and audio books.

Scott County Readmobile

Introduced in 2018, the Readmobile mobile library visits community organizations, early childhood site and special events, bringing books, snacks and fun. Check the Readmobile webpage for a list of upcoming site visits. This program is geared toward families with children 0-5.

Waggin Tales @ Scott County Library

Some library branches in this system offer an opportunity for kids to read to therapy dogs. Similar to the Rescue Readers at the Humane Society of Minnesota, this program is a great way for kids to practice reading to a good listener. This program is free. Book a time by calling the hosting library branch.

Watch Bookflix With your Library Card

A mix of videos and books and games for preschool to elementary age, Bookflix is one of my favorite online resources accessible with a library card. Scott County patrons have access to this resource.
